Accessibility Statement
Accessibility Statement
Rugsville is committed to making rugsville.co.uk usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA and welcome feedback.
Our commitment
Accessibility isn't a feature we add at the end. We design with it from the start — semantic HTML, descriptive alt text, sufficient colour contrast, keyboard reachability, and meaningful labels for screen readers. We test with real assistive technology and iterate when something doesn't land right.
This statement is provided in line with our obligations under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments for disabled users, and follows guidance from the UK Government Digital Service and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1.
What we've built in
- Colour contrast — body text 4.5:1+ against backgrounds, large text 3:1+ (WCAG SC 1.4.3)
- Keyboard navigation — every interactive element reachable and operable with Tab, Enter and Esc (SC 2.1.1)
- Visible focus indicators — you can always see where you are on the page (SC 2.4.7)
- Screen reader labels — aria-labels on icon-only buttons, descriptive alt text on images (SC 1.1.1)
- Heading hierarchy — logical h1 → h2 → h3 sequence on every page (SC 1.3.1)
- Form labels — every input has a visible, associated label (SC 3.3.2)
- Touch-friendly — minimum 44px tap targets, 8px+ spacing (SC 2.5.5)
- Reduced motion — we respect the
prefers-reduced-motionsystem setting (SC 2.3.3) - Resizable text — works up to 200% zoom without breaking layout (SC 1.4.4)
- Page structure — semantic landmarks (header, main, nav, aside) for navigation by assistive technology
Standards we follow
- Target
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA
- Reviewed

Known limitations
We are honest about what isn't perfect yet:
- Some product photography is missing detailed alt-text for handmade pattern detail — we are backfilling this
- Complex filtering controls on category pages can be cluttered for screen readers — rebuild planned
- Some legacy PDFs in older blog posts are not fully tagged for accessibility
If you encounter any of these, email us — we'll work around it for you straight away while we fix it for everyone.
