The dyes were prepared from madder root, indigo, walnut hull, and oak gall, each one matured in copper vats for two to three weeks before the wool was lowered.

The composition

Neutral cream and stone. Small geometric repeats over a soft ground, no single focal point, the border holding the field without crowding. Over time the saturations soften, the contrasts ease, and the rug develops the patina that distinguishes a long-lived hand-knotted piece from a printed reproduction.
