Jinjan is a Persian drawing tradition associated with finely scaled floral repeats laid over a soft beige or camel ground, descended from the wider Fars weaving family in southern Persia and brought into Indian workshops by master weavers trained in the same cartoon vocabulary. The Varsari Jinjan in front of you carries that small-scale floral discipline forward without copying any single historical original.
Three weavers shared the loom for roughly five months to produce this hand-knotted rug in India. The pile is hand-spun highland wool, plied for strength, dyed in small batches so the camel ground carries gentle tonal abrash. Each knot was tied against a vertical beam by feel, and the back was finished with a careful clip that lets the small-scale floral drawing read sharply at standing height while staying quiet at close range.
The composition
A warm camel ground carries a finely drawn floral repeat in soft rose, faded indigo, and ivory, with a single restrained border guard. The drawing scale is the smallest of the Persian family vocabularies, which is why a Jinjan reads as continuous texture rather than as a centred composition. The camel ground was built from undyed natural fleece overdyed in a weak walnut bath. Over years of use the camel will warm into a deeper honey and the floral spray will mellow into the surrounding field.
What you are buying
Jinjan-tradition carpets at this drawing standard list with Western dealers at two to three times the price asked here. The piece is fully hand-knotted in hand-spun wool, which means the foundation, knot count, and labour are equivalent to the antique pieces it descends from. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating, the underlying argument for buying any hand-knotted rug at this price point.
The piece in a room
The camel ground is the most architectural neutral in the Persian vocabulary and pairs without effort with walnut, oak, leather, brass, and unbleached linen. The Varsari Jinjan reads especially well against pale plaster and warm grey walls. The continuous small-scale drawing makes the rug behave as a considered ground in a living room or library rather than as a focal incident.
Conservation
Rotate end for end every six months so the pile wears evenly under footfall and changing daylight. Vacuum weekly with the beater bar disengaged. Blot spills immediately with a clean cotton cloth and never apply heat. Plan a wool-trained hand-wash every five years. With that schedule the rug runs sixty to eighty years and develops the surface depth aged Jinjan-tradition wool always reaches.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Free standard delivery across mainland UK is 3–5 working days. Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland and remote postcodes typically take 5–7 working days. We’ll email a tracking link as soon as your order is dispatched.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each rug is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for £25 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp or email us with the SKU and your delivery postcode to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations you may return your order within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email support@rugsville.co.uk or message us on WhatsApp with your order number and we’ll arrange a return collection. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted rugs typically take 8–14 weeks depending on size and complexity (production plus shipping to the UK). Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Do you ship to Europe / outside the UK?
Our online checkout currently ships to mainland UK only. For orders to the EU, Channel Islands or Republic of Ireland please email support@rugsville.co.uk with the SKU and full address — we’ll quote courier and any duties before processing.
