The piece was hand-woven in India over 4 weeks on a horizontal pit loom. Wool weft was pressed tight against a cotton warp using a wooden beater, building the geometric field row by row. The composition

The palette runs in multi against a counter-tone that holds the eye without competing with it. Because the weave is flat, every colour change is a hard line; the design resolves with the clarity of a printed graphic but with the depth of hand-spun wool. The horizontal lay of the fibre catches light along its length, which gives the dhurrie a soft sheen that shifts as you move through the room.
