The flatweave is the oldest form of pile-less floor textile, predating the knotted rug by several thousand years. Archaeological fragments from the Achaemenid period show flat-woven floor pieces in the same construction as the dhurries still being made on Indian looms today. This multi wool dhurrie carries a modern geometric composition that emerges from the slow logic of the loom rather than from a paper cartoon, and reads with the graphic clarity that only a flat weave can deliver.
The piece was hand-woven in India over 4 weeks on a horizontal pit loom. Wool weft was pressed tight against a cotton warp using a wooden beater, building the geometric field row by row. The weave is reversible, with both faces showing the same pattern in mirror-image colour relationships, which doubles the working life of the rug.
The composition
The palette runs in multi against a counter-tone that holds the eye without competing with it. Because the weave is flat, every colour change is a hard line; the design resolves with the clarity of a printed graphic but with the depth of hand-spun wool. The horizontal lay of the fibre catches light along its length, which gives the dhurrie a soft sheen that shifts as you move through the room.
The piece in a room
size as listed () sits well beneath a sofa-and-two-chair grouping or a queen bed with the lower two-thirds of the frame on the wool. The piece organises a room without taking it over. The flat profile suits doorways, kitchen edges, and rooms with sliding furniture, and the multi weave is reversible for double the working life. Pair with low timber furniture, woven bamboo, white-washed walls, and natural linen upholstery to let the geometry of the dhurrie set the visual rhythm of the room.
Care
Vacuum gently with no beater bar. Because there is no pile to crush, the dhurrie keeps its profile under furniture indefinitely; you can slide a heavy chair across it without leaving a permanent mark. Flip it once a year. For a deep clean, hand-wash with cool water and mild soap, dry flat in shade until the cotton warp is fully dry.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Free standard delivery across mainland UK is 3–5 working days. Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland and remote postcodes typically take 5–7 working days. We’ll email a tracking link as soon as your order is dispatched.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each rug is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for £25 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp or email us with the SKU and your delivery postcode to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations you may return your order within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email support@rugsville.co.uk or message us on WhatsApp with your order number and we’ll arrange a return collection. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted rugs typically take 8–14 weeks depending on size and complexity (production plus shipping to the UK). Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Do you ship to Europe / outside the UK?
Our online checkout currently ships to mainland UK only. For orders to the EU, Channel Islands or Republic of Ireland please email support@rugsville.co.uk with the SKU and full address — we’ll quote courier and any duties before processing.
