This third 8' x 10' beige Ziegler in the present batch is closely related to the 10041 and the 10346 but works with a marginally warmer reading of the soft beige ground, with a faint pink undertone that pulls the field closer to a buff or putty than to a true natural cream. Such tonal variations are a feature, not a flaw, of the vegetable-dye tradition; the workshop produces the same drawing at the same scale year after year, and the colour batches drift gently within a defined tolerance, giving each piece its own character.
The rug was woven in India by three weavers across approximately five months. Hand-spun natural wool was knotted with the asymmetric Persian knot on a cotton foundation. The wool was vegetable dyed in walnut, oak gall, and a marginally warmer madder bath before knotting, with the principal vine drawing in deeper tan over the warm buff ground. The finished piece was washed in plant soap, sun-cured for several weeks, and hand-sheared to bring the vine drawing into visible relief against the calm field.
The composition
A warm buff-beige ground laid with a quiet, all-over scrolling vine pattern in soft tan and walnut. The drawing repeats but the spacing is open, in keeping with the Ziegler discipline. The border is a single restrained guard band rather than a stack of competing repeats. The colour will lighten and warm further over the next decade, the buff drifting toward a softer ivory, the tan deepening into a deeper cinnamon. Surface variation in the hand-spun wool keeps the field alive under interior light at every angle.
What you are buying
Antique Ziegler-tradition carpets at this size sell at international auction in the four to twenty thousand US dollar range; comparable contemporary work appears at Western interior dealers in the three to five thousand pound range. The pricing on this listing represents direct workshop sourcing from India. The construction, fibre, and dye process are identical to the better contemporary studio production. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating; the soft palette deepens into the patina that distinguishes serious hand-knotted work from any decorative reproduction.
The piece in a room
A warm buff-beige Ziegler at eight by ten reads as a quiet ground in almost any architectural setting. The rug supports cream linen, ochre velvet, oxblood leather, or charcoal upholstery. Sits well under a long sofa, under a six-seat dining table, or in a primary bedroom under the foot of a king bed. Pairs cleanly with raw oak, brass, and walnut.
Conservation
Rotate the rug a half turn each spring and autumn so window light ages the surface evenly. Vacuum weekly with the beater bar disengaged. Pale fields show grit faster than dark fields and benefit from frequent gentle care. Blot any spill with a clean cotton cloth from the outside in. Hand wash by a wool-trained conservator every five to seven years. With this care the rug runs eighty to a hundred years of useful life.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Free standard delivery across mainland UK is 3–5 working days. Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland and remote postcodes typically take 5–7 working days. We’ll email a tracking link as soon as your order is dispatched.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each rug is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for £25 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp or email us with the SKU and your delivery postcode to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations you may return your order within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email support@rugsville.co.uk or message us on WhatsApp with your order number and we’ll arrange a return collection. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted rugs typically take 8–14 weeks depending on size and complexity (production plus shipping to the UK). Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Do you ship to Europe / outside the UK?
Our online checkout currently ships to mainland UK only. For orders to the EU, Channel Islands or Republic of Ireland please email support@rugsville.co.uk with the SKU and full address — we’ll quote courier and any duties before processing.
