The pattern in this rug grew out of contemporary studio work in conversation with a much older textile lineage. The drawing was developed in graphite and ink before being committed to the loom for production, and the palette was tested against several lighting conditions before it was finalised.
The drawing for this rug was developed across several rounds of small-format samples before the production palette and scale were locked. The result reads as a graphic field built from brown and the values that surround it, designed to hold its own at room scale rather than receding into the background.
The fibre
Heat-set polypropylene. The colour is locked into the yarn by temperature rather than by surface dye, which is why the saturation does not fade under direct sunlight. Spilled wine, juice, oil, or coffee lifts with a damp cloth before it sets. The pile stays flat under furniture and the rug does not shed.
The composition
A composition built around a brown ground that anchors the field with the warmth of walnut. The pattern develops at a measured pace and the colour holds its register across the field. The pattern reads as a single graphic field at distance and resolves into the structured weave of the loom on close approach.
The piece in a room
At 5'1" × 7'8" (155 × 234 cm) the rug suits a compact living area, a primary bedroom with a queen frame, or a dining nook seating four. The brown ground holds the floor without claiming ownership of the room, and the geometry resolves cleanly when sofa legs and side tables sit on top of it. Front legs of upholstery on the rug, rear legs off, is the arrangement that lets the field read at full strength. Holds its own next to large-scale art and works against a single accent piece rather than a busy gallery wall.
Care
Vacuum weekly. Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Most spills lift before they set because the colour is locked into the fibre by heat rather than by surface dye. The rug is washable on a cold cycle if a stain resists spot care.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

How long will shipping take?
Free standard delivery across mainland UK is 3–5 working days. Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland and remote postcodes typically take 5–7 working days. We’ll email a tracking link as soon as your order is dispatched.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each rug is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for £25 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp or email us with the SKU and your delivery postcode to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations you may return your order within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email support@rugsville.co.uk or message us on WhatsApp with your order number and we’ll arrange a return collection. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted rugs typically take 8–14 weeks depending on size and complexity (production plus shipping to the UK). Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Do you ship to Europe / outside the UK?
Our online checkout currently ships to mainland UK only. For orders to the EU, Channel Islands or Republic of Ireland please email support@rugsville.co.uk with the SKU and full address — we’ll quote courier and any duties before processing.
