The design here came out of a studio brief to translate the rhythms of antique tribal pattern into a vocabulary that suits contemporary interiors. The grid was tightened, the palette pulled toward neutrals, and the figure-ground relationship sharpened so the rug reads as a single considered field rather than as a busy repeat.

The drawing for this rug was developed across several rounds of small-format samples before the production palette and scale were locked. The result reads as a graphic field built from ivory and the values that surround it, designed to hold its own at room scale rather than receding into the background.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene. The colour is locked into the yarn by temperature rather than by surface dye, which is why the saturation does not fade under direct sunlight. Spilled wine, juice, oil, or coffee lifts with a damp cloth before it sets. The pile stays flat under furniture and the rug does not shed.

The composition

A composition built around an ivory ground with the warm tonal shift of natural daylight. The pattern develops at a measured pace and the colour holds its register across the field. The geometry holds at room distance and rewards close looking, which is the test a long-lived design has to pass to stay in production beyond a single season.

The piece in a room

At 5'3" × 7'7" (160 × 231 cm) the rug suits a compact living area, a primary bedroom with a queen frame, or a dining nook seating four. The ivory ground holds the floor without claiming ownership of the room, and the geometry resolves cleanly when sofa legs and side tables sit on top of it. Front legs of upholstery on the rug, rear legs off, is the arrangement that lets the field read at full strength. Sits well beside mid-century timber furniture, contemporary low-slung upholstery, and lighting that throws warm rather than cool light.

Care

Vacuum on any setting, including with a beater bar. Spot care by damp cloth and mild detergent is enough for most spills. Cold machine wash for stubborn stains. The rug requires no professional cleaning over its life.
