The pattern in this rug grew out of contemporary design studios working with the visual vocabulary of mid-century European geometry alongside the colour traditions of Anatolian weaving. An abstract field in grey, drawn so the densities open and tighten across the field rather than tiling repetitively, gives a room a considered ground that reads as a single composition rather than as a printed surface.

The studio worked the design in graphite and ink for several months before approving it for production. The colour palette was matched against architectural references rather than seasonal trends, which is why the rug holds across renovation cycles instead of dating to a single year. The intention was a piece that could carry the foot traffic of a working household without the maintenance burden of fine wool.

The fibre

The yarn is heat-set polypropylene. Colour is bonded to the fibre by extrusion temperature, not by surface application, so direct sunlight does not bleach it the way it bleaches printed wool. Spills lift with a damp cloth, and the pile resists the staining that would set permanently on a natural fibre. The rug does not shed and does not require professional cleaning.

The composition

A single saturated grey ground carries the abstract field through subtle changes of tone. The composition relies on geometry rather than on colour contrast to organise the eye. It sits well next to walnut and oak, against linen and leather, and under brass or unfinished metal. A patterned upholstery scheme is the one combination that compromises the design.

Run a vacuum across it once a week. Catch spills with a damp cloth as they happen. The fibre does not stain, mat, or shed under normal household use. A garden hose and air drying handle a deeper clean once a year, and the colour comes through unchanged on the other side.
