The faded vintage Persian rug is a twentieth-century invention. Antique weavings sun-bleached over decades acquired a softness of palette that no new weaving could replicate, and that softness became its own design language. The blue persian composition here borrows that aesthetic, drawn fresh by studio designers and rendered at fine resolution.

The pattern was developed in studio over several months of drawing, then resolved into a high-resolution jacquard programme on a power loom. Each colour pass is woven into the structure of the rug rather than printed on the surface, which is what gives the persian composition its depth at room distance. Made in Turkey on the long-format jacquard looms that defined twentieth-century European rug production.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene. The colour is locked into the yarn by temperature rather than printed onto the surface, which is why the saturation does not fade under direct sunlight the way pigment printing fades. The fibre resists staining at the molecular level. Spilled wine, juice, oil, or coffee lift with a damp cloth before they set. The pile stays flat under furniture and does not shed, which makes the rug a workable choice for rooms that see children, pets, and daily use.

The composition

The blue palette holds the persian drawing across the full field. The asymmetry of the composition means the eye does not land on a single focal point but moves across the surface. The pattern was built to give a room a considered ground without claiming it. Pairs with timber, brass, leather, linen, and raw plaster. Pairs poorly with strongly patterned upholstery; the rug expects to be the only graphic element in the composition. The colour reads slightly cooler under daylight and warmer under tungsten lamps.

The piece in a room

5'3" x 7'9" (160 x 236 cm) is the working scale for a flat-sized living room, a dining footprint under a six-seater table, or a primary bedroom. The geometry holds at a distance and reveals on approach. The blue field carries enough graphic weight to define a seating area without dominating it. Sits well over both stone and timber floors, and accepts a low coffee table or an ottoman without crushing under the load.

Care

Vacuum weekly with normal attachments. Spot clean with mild detergent on a clean cloth. Machine wash on a cold 30°C cycle if a spill resists spot cleaning; the rug folds to fit a domestic drum. Dries flat in two hours. No professional cleaning required, and no rotation schedule needed beyond moving furniture occasionally so the pile recovers evenly.

Day-to-day care

  • Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
  • Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
  • Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
  • Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.

Deep cleaning

  • Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
  • Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
  • For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.

Storage

  • Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
  • Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
  • Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked

How long will shipping take?

Free standard delivery across mainland UK is 3–5 working days. Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland and remote postcodes typically take 5–7 working days. We’ll email a tracking link as soon as your order is dispatched.

Will the colour exactly match the photo?

Each rug is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.

Can I get a sample before buying?

Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for £25 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp or email us with the SKU and your delivery postcode to arrange a sample.

What is your returns process?

Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations you may return your order within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email support@rugsville.co.uk or message us on WhatsApp with your order number and we’ll arrange a return collection. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted rugs typically take 8–14 weeks depending on size and complexity (production plus shipping to the UK). Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.

Do you ship to Europe / outside the UK?

Our online checkout currently ships to mainland UK only. For orders to the EU, Channel Islands or Republic of Ireland please email support@rugsville.co.uk with the SKU and full address — we’ll quote courier and any duties before processing.
