The motif here arrived through a long working partnership between a Turkish design studio and the production loom. The drawing started in graphite on paper, moved through several proofs in cloth, and was settled only when the colour and geometry could carry the room from any standing position.
The palette is anchored in a blue register, set against open ground so each value reads on its own terms. The composition is meant as a single visual gesture at room scale and rewards a long look from across the room as much as a close inspection.
The composition
A blue register is what the composition is for. The pattern is the device that delivers the colour at room scale; the design is in service of the palette rather than the other way around. The wool was hand-spun and the dyes prepared in small batches, so the field carries the quiet unevenness that the human hand leaves on every step of the process. The piece reads as patina from the day it is unrolled, rather than acquiring patina across years of wear.
The fibre
Polypropylene, heat-set. The colour is locked into the structure of the fibre at production temperature, not applied as a surface dye. Sun, vacuum, foot traffic and ordinary cleaning have no measurable effect on the saturation. Pigmented spills release with a damp cloth before they can set into the yarn. There is no shedding and no pile crush under standard use.
The piece in a room
5'3" x 7'6" is the right scale for the primary seating arrangement of a one- or two-bedroom home. The rug holds a sofa, two armchairs, and a coffee table inside its margins, with breathing room around the furniture so the composition is legible. The geometry is sized to read at the distance from the doorway to the seating.
Care
The rug needs nothing more than weekly vacuuming and prompt attention to spills. The yarn does not absorb pigmented liquid at the surface, so wine, coffee and juice release before they bond. Machine wash cold if needed; the piece dries flat without distortion. No professional cleaning is necessary across its working life.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Free standard delivery across mainland UK is 3–5 working days. Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland and remote postcodes typically take 5–7 working days. We’ll email a tracking link as soon as your order is dispatched.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each rug is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for £25 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp or email us with the SKU and your delivery postcode to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations you may return your order within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email support@rugsville.co.uk or message us on WhatsApp with your order number and we’ll arrange a return collection. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted rugs typically take 8–14 weeks depending on size and complexity (production plus shipping to the UK). Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Do you ship to Europe / outside the UK?
Our online checkout currently ships to mainland UK only. For orders to the EU, Channel Islands or Republic of Ireland please email support@rugsville.co.uk with the SKU and full address — we’ll quote courier and any duties before processing.
