The classical Persian medallion is one of the most resilient forms in the history of textile design. It survives because it solves a problem any large rug has to solve, namely how to anchor an open field without crowding it. The blue composition on this rug works that grammar at room scale, drawn from the workshop tradition that ran through the great Safavid centres and into the European drawing rooms of the late 1800s. A studio cartoon, refined across many revisions, before the design entered production.
The fibre
Heat-set polypropylene. The colour is locked in by temperature rather than by surface dye, which is why saturation does not fade under direct sunlight the way pigment printing fades. The fibre resists staining at the molecular level, so spilled juice, wine, oil or coffee lift with a damp cloth before they set. The pile stays flat under furniture and does not shed. Cleaning is a matter of routine vacuuming and the occasional damp wipe.
The composition
Blue carries the field as an interior ground rather than a printed surface. The pattern moves across the rug at a measured pace, with the densities slightly tighter where the eye expects to settle and looser at the perimeter. The heat-set polypropylene pile holds the colour in a way that printed work never matches, with a small amount of optical movement that reads as life rather than noise. The piece is composed to be looked at, not just walked on.
The piece in a room
5' x 7'8" (5' x 7'8" (152 x 234 cm)) is the canonical living-room rug for a flat. It sits comfortably under a six-seater dining table, anchors a three-piece sofa arrangement, or holds the floor of a primary bedroom from the foot of the bed outward. The blue ground holds against both light and dark walls and pairs with mid-tone wood floors.
Care
A weekly pass with a household vacuum is enough. Spills lift with a damp cloth before they set. The rug does not need professional cleaning. If a stain refuses to come up, machine wash cool and dry flat. The fibre returns to its set length within a few hours of being laid out and the pile holds its register without re-tufting.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Free standard delivery across mainland UK is 3–5 working days. Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland and remote postcodes typically take 5–7 working days. We’ll email a tracking link as soon as your order is dispatched.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each rug is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for £25 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp or email us with the SKU and your delivery postcode to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations you may return your order within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email support@rugsville.co.uk or message us on WhatsApp with your order number and we’ll arrange a return collection. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted rugs typically take 8–14 weeks depending on size and complexity (production plus shipping to the UK). Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Do you ship to Europe / outside the UK?
Our online checkout currently ships to mainland UK only. For orders to the EU, Channel Islands or Republic of Ireland please email support@rugsville.co.uk with the SKU and full address — we’ll quote courier and any duties before processing.
