The villages around Heriz in northwest Iran developed a bold, large-scale geometric reading of classical Persian medallion design, woven on cotton foundations heavy enough to handle a generation of traffic.
Two hands worked the loom across 3 months of bench time. Approximately 622K knots in total, every one tied by hand at the loom. Fine New Zealand fleece runs through the rug. Lower-grade fibre will pull and felt under traffic; this grade carries the design through decades of household use without losing surface integrity. The dyes were taken from madder root, indigo, walnut hull, and pomegranate skin, each bath matured in copper vessels for a fortnight before the wool was lowered.
The composition
A ivory and beige ground holds a vine and palmette repeat that opens at the centre and closes toward the borders. The colour will settle differently in the lit areas and the shaded ones. Rotating the rug at the seasons keeps the ageing even.
What you are buying
At £9,999 this is a working entry point into hand-knotted collecting, a tier where the labour cost itself, set against the months a weaver spent at the loom, makes the price unrepeatable.
The piece in a room
4' × 6' (122 × 183 cm) is an accent piece, sized for an entryway, a reading corner, the area at the foot of a bed, or the floor between two facing chairs. The ivory and beige concentrates the eye in a small footprint.
Conservation
Conservation discipline for a rug of this density is straightforward: rotate twice yearly, vacuum on suction only, blot any liquid before it sets, and hand-wash through a wool-trained conservator once every five years. The rug carries through a century in domestic use under that schedule.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Free standard delivery across mainland UK is 3–5 working days. Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland and remote postcodes typically take 5–7 working days. We’ll email a tracking link as soon as your order is dispatched.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each rug is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for £25 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp or email us with the SKU and your delivery postcode to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations you may return your order within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email support@rugsville.co.uk or message us on WhatsApp with your order number and we’ll arrange a return collection. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted rugs typically take 8–14 weeks depending on size and complexity (production plus shipping to the UK). Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Do you ship to Europe / outside the UK?
Our online checkout currently ships to mainland UK only. For orders to the EU, Channel Islands or Republic of Ireland please email support@rugsville.co.uk with the SKU and full address — we’ll quote courier and any duties before processing.
