Modern rug drawing is a conversation between weaver and painter. Studios in India, Europe, and Turkey have been producing in this idiom since the 1960s, refining open fields and disciplined line. The drawing is meant to read across a working room and to survive the conditions a hand-spun rug cannot: full sun, daily traffic, and the occasional spilled drink. The fibre carries the visual weight without the maintenance overhead, which is the practical case for choosing the form.

The composition

A beige field worked at room scale, with the drawing weighted to read across the floor rather than to pull the eye to a single point. The colour is locked in at the loom rather than printed on top, which is why it holds against light and traffic without the dulling that surface treatment shows after a few seasons. The drawing was developed against contemporary architectural references. The proportion of motif to ground is sized for rooms with low furniture and visible wall colour, not period interiors.

The piece in a room

Care

Vacuum on a weekly schedule. Most spills lift with mild detergent and a damp cloth. For tougher accidents the rug folds into a domestic drum on a 30 °C cold cycle and dries flat in around two hours. The piece is engineered to hold its appearance through years of household use.
