The pattern in this rug grew out of contemporary studios working between the disciplines of mid-century painting and Anatolian weaving. A reduced palette, a considered composition, a graphic that holds at room scale and reveals on close inspection. The studio prepared the design over months in graphite and chalk before approving it for production.

The composition is anchored in blue, with the supporting palette tuned to give the dominant colour somewhere to sit. The drawing reads at room scale and rewards close inspection. The cartoon was tested at full scale before production began, with the studio resolving how each motif sat against its neighbours, how the borders carried the eye back to the field, and how the composition held up under the kinds of furniture a working room places on top of a rug. The finished piece is the product of that prototyping discipline.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene. The yarn is engineered so colour is locked in by temperature rather than by surface dye, which is why saturation does not fade under direct sunlight the way pigment printing fades. The fibre resists staining at the molecular level: spilled wine, juice, oil, or coffee lift with a damp cloth before they set. The pile stays flat under furniture and the surface does not shed.

The composition

The composition reads in blue, supported by quieter tones for balance. The drawing carries cleanly across a working room. Each border element relates to the field rather than sitting on top of it, and the proportions of the medallions and motifs were resolved on paper before any production began. The result is a pattern that holds together as a single considered work.

5' × 8' (152 × 244 cm) is the working scale for living rooms in apartments, dining areas under a six- or eight-seater table, primary bedrooms, and corridors that see traffic. The geometry holds at distance and reveals on approach.

Care

Vacuum weekly with any standard upright or canister. Spot clean with a mild detergent on a clean cloth, blotting rather than rubbing. The fibre tolerates a cold-cycle wash at thirty degrees if a spill resists spot cleaning, and the rug dries flat in a few hours without losing its drape. No professional cleaning is required to keep the surface in working condition.
