Persian panel carpets evolved as a conversation between calligraphic gardens and the architectural cartouches of Safavid manuscript illumination. Each compartment becomes its own composition, framed and resolved, then linked to its neighbour by a shared border vocabulary. The result reads less like a single field rug and less like a repeating tile, and more like a folio of pages laid flat. Green ground takes that legacy and warms it for a contemporary room. Two weavers shared the loom in India for roughly four months. Around 720,000 Persian asymmetric knots, every one tied by feel against the warp and beaten down with a wooden comb. The pile is yarn-dyed wool, luster washed in the finishing yard for the mellow saturation Persian rugs are known for, then sheared to twelve millimetres and self-bound at the edge.

The composition

The green ground is not a single value. It carries blue-green in the deeper hollows of the panels and turns slightly olive where the pile catches direct light, a reading the wool produces only when dyed in batches and then balanced against each other on the loom. Within the panels, ivory provides the breath, madder the heat, and indigo the punctuation. Over years of use the green will cool, the madder will warm into rose, and the ivory will deepen into bone.

Antique Persian panel rugs of similar density and condition appear in dealer collections in the four to eight thousand pound range when they appear at all.
