A studio brief for a pattern that holds at room scale yet rewards close reading produced this design. The composition was iterated through chalk drawings and digital colour studies before it was approved for the loom, and the final palette was chosen to sit comfortably with both warm and cool wood floors. The result is a faded Oriental field in red, scaled and balanced to live as the visual ground of a contemporary room.
The pattern was developed in studio work between Indian and Turkish design teams and produced on jacquard looms in Turkey. The composition reads as a single considered field rather than a tile, with densities tightening at the centre and opening toward the edges.
The fibre
Heat-set polypropylene. The yarn is engineered so colour is locked in by temperature rather than dipped on the surface, which is why red stays saturated under direct daylight without fading the way pigment-printed pile does. The fibre resists staining at the molecular level: spilled wine, juice, oil, and coffee lift with a damp cloth before they set. The pile holds shape under furniture and does not shed.
The composition
The field is built around red with the supporting tones laid in to give the eye somewhere to rest. There is no single focal point; the composition is read across rather than into. The rug pairs with walnut, oak, brass, leather, linen, and warm wood floors. It pairs poorly with strongly patterned upholstery, because the rug expects to be the only graphic element in the room.
The piece in a room
5'3" x 7'4" (160 × 224 cm) sits well beneath a sofa-and-two-chair grouping or a queen bed with the lower two-thirds of the frame on the wool. The piece organises a room without taking it over.
Care
Vacuum weekly. Spot-clean with mild detergent on a clean cloth. The fibre is heat-set, so saturation does not lift in cleaning. The size folds into a domestic washing drum if a spill resists spot work. Air-dry flat. No professional cleaning required.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Free standard delivery across mainland UK is 3–5 working days. Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland and remote postcodes typically take 5–7 working days. We’ll email a tracking link as soon as your order is dispatched.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each rug is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for £25 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp or email us with the SKU and your delivery postcode to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations you may return your order within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email support@rugsville.co.uk or message us on WhatsApp with your order number and we’ll arrange a return collection. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted rugs typically take 8–14 weeks depending on size and complexity (production plus shipping to the UK). Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Do you ship to Europe / outside the UK?
Our online checkout currently ships to mainland UK only. For orders to the EU, Channel Islands or Republic of Ireland please email support@rugsville.co.uk with the SKU and full address — we’ll quote courier and any duties before processing.
