The pattern in this rug grew out of the long conversation between Persian medallion drawing and contemporary studio design. A central organising motif, a held purple ground, a quiet border that frames rather than competes. The studio worked the cartoon for several months before approving it for production, with the proportions adjusted for the scale of a present-day room.
The look belongs to the post-2010 generation of floor designs that draw on the classical vocabulary without copying any specific antique. The drawing is recognisable without being derivative.
The fibre
Heat-set polypropylene yarn, woven on a jacquard loom in Turkey. The colour is locked into the fibre by temperature rather than applied as a surface dye, which is why the saturation does not fade under direct sunlight the way pigment-printed colour fades. The pile resists staining at the molecular level, recovers from furniture compression, and does not shed. The rug is built to take routine domestic traffic without distress and to hold its drawing through repeated cleaning. For households with children, with pets, or with the casual spill habits of an everyday living room, this construction does the work the wool tier cannot.
The composition
A composition in purple with the drawing held at low contrast so the rug acts as a settled ground rather than as a focal object. The fibre is dense enough to take regular foot traffic without crushing and recovers the pile after furniture is moved.
The piece in a room
5' × 8' (152 × 244 cm) is the working scale for an accent zone. A reading chair and a side table, the foot of a queen bed, a console-and-mirror entry composition, or a defined corner of a larger living room. The purple ground holds against pale walls and gathers around itself in the evening when the lighting drops. Pair with a single piece of upholstered furniture sitting half on, half off the rug, rather than trying to enclose a full grouping.
Care
Vacuum weekly. Spot clean with mild detergent on a damp cloth. Heat-set fibre resists staining at the surface, which means most accidents lift before they set. The rug does not require professional cleaning; a thorough home vacuum keeps the pile in working condition.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Free standard delivery across mainland UK is 3–5 working days. Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland and remote postcodes typically take 5–7 working days. We’ll email a tracking link as soon as your order is dispatched.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each rug is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for £25 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp or email us with the SKU and your delivery postcode to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations you may return your order within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email support@rugsville.co.uk or message us on WhatsApp with your order number and we’ll arrange a return collection. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted rugs typically take 8–14 weeks depending on size and complexity (production plus shipping to the UK). Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Do you ship to Europe / outside the UK?
Our online checkout currently ships to mainland UK only. For orders to the EU, Channel Islands or Republic of Ireland please email support@rugsville.co.uk with the SKU and full address — we’ll quote courier and any duties before processing.
